An Introduction to Christian Writing By Ethel Herr
When a group of friends asked me to teach them how to write, I began by answering the question, “What do I wish someone had taught me in the beginning?”
The eleven-lesson course that emerged became a book in 1983. This practical text on the fine art and ministry of writing, now in its second edition, will help you develop your God-given talent. When you complete the assignments, you should have one personal experience story ready to submit to a publisher. And you will have a lifetime reference manual on nearly every aspect of writing for the glory of God.

Words are Symbols
Sounds in the air
Sighs and laughter
Groans and shouts
And quiet little spaces
of eloquent silence.

I cannot NOT write ~
Hence I am a writer.
I am a writer~
Hence I cannot NOT write.

From inside the walls of my boxes, I once treasured writing as a means to fulfill my solemn obligations to God and the world. It was my God-given tool for expressing all the things I needed to teach to all who would listen.
Out here on the dance floor, no longer duty-driven, I find great delight in writing. The penning of endless journals~ the pouring out of all the contents of my soul upon the God who guides my steps~ has brought me understanding, appreciation, freedom. I can now enjoy words, shiver with excitement over metaphors, dance across the pages of life with a new spring in my step.
In the process, the message gets through. I love watching it launch like some master display of fireworks in the eyes and hearts of my readers.

Letter written to my grandparents when I was 11 years old.
